May is one of my favorite months. Spring finally springs (fingers crossed – we have had snow on Mother’s Day before!) and everyone’s moods lighten as sunshine brightens everyone’s days. There are so many awesome things to be grateful for in May that limiting my list was pretty tough.
My oldest daughter was born on May 7th. 18 years ago this week, my husband and I became parents for the first time. As cliche-sounding as it is, in a blink of an eye a whole childhood can seem to pass you by.
My second daughter was also born on May 7th, three years after her older sister. She is, as we like to tell her, the gift that keeps on giving. It’s also a big week for her…her braces came off yesterday. On our way to the orthodontist she casually remarked to me that now I’ll be able to get more pictures of her because she will start to smile again. I’m looking forward to that!
Where would I be without the constant love, support, encouragement, and friendship of my mom? Moms, in a nutshell, are just awesome.
Memorial Day Weekend
School in NY lasts until mid to end of June but in our world, Memorial Day is the true kickoff to summer. A weekend spent with family and friends is always enjoyed. This year will be even better. My daughters have an extended break from school for unused snow days.
Sleeping with the Windows Open
I love going to bed with a slight breeze at night and waking with the songs of birds (some days not so much if I am being honest though).
I love being outside after dinner and it is still light. I feel so much more productive and full of energy with the longer hours of daylight.
Getting out in the yard, cleaning up gardens, and removing the remnants of a long winter are rejuvenating. Planning color schemes for my window boxes is always something I look forward to.
I am a fair-weathered exerciser. In May I step up my fitness game and get back outside and start walking. Not only is it good for my body, but long walks with my husband or friends are great for my spirit too.
All of our local ice cream shops and BBQ places open up for the summer season. This past weekend I had a Turkey BBQ, sweet potato fries, and a soft serve chocolate cone. It was amazing.
I love iced tea but can not bring myself to drink it during the winter. Once May hits, I reunite with my chilled caffeine drink and love it. The perfect iced tea in my opinion? Dunkin Donuts, no lemon, real sugar (not that syrup sugar they use…ask for real!).
I’m thrilled to have Ashlen from A Diamond with Sapphires going me this month as my co-host.
