10 Ways to Brighten Someone’s Day

The holidays are over.  The coldness of the winter has settled in and if you are anywhere above the middle part of the U.S., you are still looking at at least 2 more months of winter.  It’s easy to get the winter blues.   Sometimes we all need a little help to break out of that funk.  Here’s 10 simple things you can do to brighten someone’s day.

1.  Invite a friend for coffee/lunch/dessert.

2.  Pay it Forward.  Treat someone in the drive through lane.  Leave a coupon attached to an item at the store.   Have a store discount card that expires soon?  Run into the store and hand it to someone in the checkout line.

3.  Bring someone a bouquet.  Doesn’t have to be flowers….think outside the box!  A balloon bouquet, a bouquets of lollipops, anything that can be bunched together and tied with a little string would be adorable.

4.  Send someone snail mail.  Receiving a hand written letter from someone always brings a smile to my face.

5.  Lend a hand.  That new mom learning to balance a newborn and other children?  Offer to babysit. Drop off a meal.  Shovel someone’s walk.  Hold a door open for someone.

6.  Send a text.  You’re sure to make someone happy with a simple “Thinking of you!” text.

7.  Listen.  Encourage.  Support.  Sometimes all a person needs is to just be heard.  Getting something off their shoulders can definitely improve someone’s day.

8.  Make a care package.  It doesn’t have to be elaborate.  A book, a magazine, a treat, a gift card for coffee….anything!

9.  Make a list!  Leave it somewhere where they will find it later.   Need some ideas?  10 Reasons I Love You!  10 Reasons Why You are a Great Friend.  5 Reasons I Am Proud to Call You My_____.

10.  Give a smile and a hug.  Sometimes just a simple hug, holding on to someone for a moment and feeling love can turn someone’s day around.

My wish for today is to brighten someone’s day each and every day.  The littlest of things have the power to cheer someone up.   There’s an added bonus to this list too.  Do any one of those things and it will also brighten your day.  It’s a total win / win for all involved.
Know how I can brighten your day?   I can introduce you to Mary of Eat Drink and Be Mary.
If you haven’t read Mary’s blog before (if you haven’t something is just not right….start reading), you may not know that she recently became engaged.  Her beautiful smile just became a bit brighter!  And can I tell you, I drool over the recipes she posts.  One way I knew we would hit it off in the blogging world?  She loves Chicken Wing Dip.  Enough said.
I love tho bake and clog.  I am also working on my photography skills, but just for fun!  (For those of you unsure what clogging is, you can read about it in Mary’s post here.)

Why We Work
I originally started this blog as “Lipstick and Lattes”.  Super cute name, but practically nothing to do with what I wanted to blog about.  A couple of months later I came up with “Eat, Drink, and Be Mary,” and have loved it ever since.  It’s everything I want to share on this space…eating, drinking, and everything that happens in life while I’m focusing on being me.
It’s easy to become friends with people that you’ve never met; through blogging I feel like I have connected and got to (virtually) meet so many wonderful gals across the US.
Target, glitter, baking, and anything to do with my future monogram all make me want to use an endless amount of the heart-eyes emoji.

I really like this idea of paying forward. I will think about it next time when I in a store and I am about to recharge my card. I must say, that I like doing good deeds secretly…like washing all cups in the kitchen at work early in the morning or cleaning the fridge, etc. I do it before people come to the office so that when they enter the kitchen or open the fridge, it looks nice and clean.

Thank you for sharing such inspiring posts.
