Buried in the hecticness and craziness of our lives are moments of happiness and awesomeness. The little things that bring a smile to your face are truly the big things in life. Finding 10 things a month to list and share always makes me feel better and more appreciative of what I have in my life. I’d love to share with you what brought a little more awesome into my life this month.
Graduation
These two? Yep. Both graduates. My oldest is now an alumna of our local high school and my youngest is on to the junior high for 7th grade.
Great Attitudes
My youngest has always been a glass half full type of girl. She has a sunny disposition and smiles through life. 2 days before the 4th of July she broke her collarbone. She can no longer attend an overnight soccer camp with all of her friends. Instead of being sad and upset she put a different spin on it and said she would rather miss that than miss tryouts for her first year of school soccer in the fall. I love that she can always find a better way of looking at things.
Upstate NY Weather
I’ll fess up now. I hate heat and humidity. My perfect day looks like this: sunny, high of 75, and bright blue skies. My next perfect day? A cool crisp Fall day. Here in Central NY, we are lucky (?) enough to experience both of those (and even the heat and humidity) within one week. Where else is weather that crazy?
Seeing My Favorite Band
A couple of weeks ago, my husband,my oldest daughter and I headed out to see our favorite band, The Avett Brothers, for their 10th time and my 8th time. As always, it was an amazing show.
Plants
Low maintenance plants are my friends. I love the type that I can water occasionally and they will thrive. My newest love, courtesy of one of my good friends, is a staghead fern. I love the look of them.
The US Women’s National Team
We are HUGE soccer fans in our house. With two that play the game (remember the aforementioned broken collarbone? Soccer injury) and one that coaches it, soccer is often talked about, played, or watched. My husband and 2 daughters were at the US vs Germany game and loved every minute of it.
Friendly Pranks
In our friend circle, when one family leaves for a vacation they become an easy target for some good natured fun. We have been known to decorate and landscape yards with washing machines, toilets, laundry lines, and of course the old fashioned fun of toilet papering yards.
Our latest prank? Creating Christmas in July at our friends’ house to welcome them home.
Imagine a yard full of used bows, inflatable toys, ornaments, nutcrackers, lights and tacky wreaths. Throw in a light up Wiener dog on the peak of their porch and you have a prank that just screams “We missed you! Welcome home!”
Birthday Celebrations
My husband just celebrated his birthday last week. He loves going on the local brewery tour (pretty sure it’s just because you get free beer at the end). We spent the afternoon there and at the local museum’s sidewalk art show. It was a perfect day.
Summer Fruit
Summer, by far, has the best fruit. Hands down. Bonus points to the fruits that make patriotic dishes so easy, tasty, and healthy!
Confidence
Slowly, I am gaining confidence in what I want this space to become and how I want it to look. It evolves over time and with it so does my vision for it. I’m excited for where I want to take this blog. Lately I have been feeling so behind and uninspired. This renewed interest and zest for this space has me feeling much better.
