I will be the first to admit that I love redoing my daughters’ bedrooms. My middle daughter had just had her room redone within the past two years. All she wanted this Christmas was a room remodel and she won us over by saying no painting would be involved. As children age their tastes are constantly evolving and their bedrooms become their haven. It is the only space they have to truly call their own and the only place where they can truly let their own tastes and personality shine. The other selling point for me? I had no other big ideas for Christmas gifts and a room remodel would provide plenty of gift ideas. It was a win/win in my opinion. I’d love to share the details of her teen room remodel with you. Prepare yourselves for a post heavy in photos.

How to Get a Vision Turned into Reality
My daughter kept telling me what she envisioned her room looking like; white, bright, fresh, airy, soothing and calming, and natural. Being a huge fan of Pinterest, I told her to create a secret board and to pin to her heart’s content. This would allow her to share her vision and also provide me to links of items she wanted making shopping easy. It was perfect.
As you know I am a HUGE Target fan. Before buying anything I will check to see if Target sells the item. With my Target card I can save 5% and get free shipping….you can’t beat that! I will also freely admit that during the chaos of the holiday season I avoided shopping in stores at all costs. I’m not one to brave crowds. If an item was available at my local Target I ordered it online and picked it up at customer service (usually I’d get called within an hour or two). All of this for free! Shopping has never been easier. Just about everything in her room came from Target making the room not only beautiful but also reasonable in price as well.

In the midst of planning this remodel I was contacted by Natural Area Rugs and offered the opportunity to review one of their rugs. I was thrilled as this would be the perfect addition, adding some texture and warmth to her room. After looking at all of the options (there are tons!) she finally chose the Caracas Jute Rug. It arrived within a few days and just as we thought it would, it completed the room. It is light and natural and has held up beautifully. I love the slight variations in color; it picks up all of the different hues in her room. The company makes shopping a breeze. Great customer service, free 30 day returns, a great selection, and free shipping make working with them a breeze. Sign up for their newsletter and you receive $25 off your order.
My daughter wanted to add some natural elements to her room and thought that a fiddle leaf fern and antlers would do the trick.

I saw this nightstand at Target (no longer available sadly). I loved that it was unique looking with a touch of the vintage look. The natural wood look is perfect for her room.
Finding this clip on Ikea light was tough but Amazon came though for me. Visiting an Ikea store is on my bucket list…is that odd? We added two shelves to display some botanical prints she had pinned from Etsy. We used one framed print from her last remodel and added a succulent to one of the shelves.

My daughter requested a vanity for makeup and a desk for schoolwork. She found two that worked beautifully in the room. I found this marquee letter and was smitten from the get go….until I turned it on. The lights are LED and a cool whitish-blue. I was hoping for a warm creamy colored lightbulb so for now the “A” remains unlit. I still love it and think it’s a great addition to the room.
Desk
As you may notice, the desk doesn’t offer tons of storage. We found storage boxes at Target and keep her odds and ends in those. We did the same thing underneath her vanity as well so her makeup is stored away neatly. You can find similar decorative storage times here (shop before 1/30/16 and save 30% off decorative storage).
As you may remember from this post, my daughter is dealing with anxiety. The semi colon has become a symbol for her as a reminder to just keep going. I found this while I was visiting my oldest daughter at college and knew that it had to be in her room. Of all the gifts we gave her this Christmas this was my favorite one. Funny how something so small and so simple can mean so much.

That covers just about the whole room remodel. I love the space that she has designed and created for herself. I feel quite certain that she won’t be asking to redo this room for awhile. And if she does? I think I’ll move into this room and enjoy it!
